Tu B’shvat and Revelation

Cathy Ostroff

When we receive an extra neshama on Shabbat

we are granted an opening for newness.

Gazing at the young moon,

we sing a new day and a new month

into being.

Praise to the Infinite Unfolding.

On the 15th of Shvat the moon a giant orb,

we watch it rise out of the ocean;

we celebrate  Tu B’shvat,

 communing with the trees

 and breathing them in.

Just as the new moon is invisible,

so the sap surges under the surface

in the miraculous work of creation;

bringing forth the fruit of nourishment

and the  joy of shared blessing.

We feel a connection to that spark of tender life,

and we become open vessels

for the light of revelation.
