What is this course?
This is the option to try a session of this five session course as a free trial. What is Jewish Meditation? Jewish Meditation begins when Judaism begins, and our rich treasury of spiritual wisdom is overflowing with powerful meditative teachings and practices that offer us profound healing and growth. In this online course with Rabbi Daniel Silverstein, we will explore together Jewish texts and practices that span millennia, guiding us on a meditative journey toward self-awareness, love, humility, reverence, wisdom, insight, compassion, integrity and deep fulfillment. We will journey through beautiful and powerful teachings which invite us into embodied practices relating to breathing, eating, posture and movement (including dance and exercise) and prayer (including Hitbodedut - speaking to the Divine in our own words). Together, we will delve into the origins of Jewish spirituality through ancient biblical and rabbinic texts, and follow the chain of spiritual practice down through the generations, learning from the ideas, insights and experiences of our great mystics, Kabbalists and spiritual guides. This course is open to novices and advanced learners of all backgrounds and levels. All texts will be provided with clear line-by-line translations, and no prior knowledge or experience with the subject matter is necessary. HOW DOES IT WORK? The course consists of five live online sessions, of 90 minutes each. Each class is recorded as well, and is sent out to all registrants following each class, so participants can watch the recordings at their own leisure. There will also be an optional WhatsApp group to allow for connection and sharing among our community. Each class includes: 1. A printable translated handout of teachings, including sources from the Torah, Midrash, Talmud, Kabbalah and Chasidut, on a specific area of Jewish Meditation. 2. A live, interactive online class, in which we go through the texts together. Rabbi Daniel provides background information, explanation, analysis and guidance for meditative practices based on the texts. 3. A second handout, with practice instructions for a specific area of Jewish Meditation. DATES AND TIMES Sundays June 8, June 22, June 29, July 6 and July 13 at 10am Pacific / 1pm Eastern / 6pm UK / 8pm Israel and the relevant hours in other time zones, for 90 minutes each time. The cost of the course is $100. Please contact R' Daniel if you would like to request subsidized registration.
